Vancouver Fashion Week 2008

Vancouver Fashion Week 2008
Vancouver Fashion Week kicked-off in style with a Gala at the Opus Hotel on Wednesday. Hosted by Dawn Chubai, the event allowed the crowd to get a sneak preview of the designs that will be featured throughout the week, with each designer introducing their collection.

Vancouver furniture designer Nathan Wiens lent out his woodworking studio and made way for the fashion masses, even throwing in a few of his own designs of the wooden variety. Wiens spliced an old tree in half and turned it into the main stage for VFW. Said tree once resided in the heart of the city but was uprooted to make way for urban development decades ago. It had been stored in his studio for a long time, so there were no fuel emissions to transport it to the venue—plus, there was no heating provided in the studio hence making this fashion week quite eco-friendly.

Sheer Fabrics Clothes

Sheer Fabrics Clothes
Sheer fabrics and sheer opaque fabric combinations are a strong look for spring 2009. Take a look at these innovative collages, especially the ribbon embroidery on tulle (I think) at Alexander Wang. Although I feel that the only wearable piece here is the white bolero from Ralph Rucci.

Acra’s ultra-feminine frocks were glossed up with bright colors and shiny fabrics. Her Spring collection primarily consisted of dresses and separates, in hues of canary yellow, emerald green, and bright purple. Eye-catching color combinations were the theme - green and yellow punched up with purple; red and white floral printed dresses with wide colored belts; shimmering gowns.
